1. Decisions you may appeal
Appeals may concern assessment results, examination eligibility, reasonable adjustments, special consideration or malpractice decisions. Grounds include an administrative or marking error, failure to follow the published procedure, bias or a conflict of interest, or relevant evidence not properly considered. Disappointment with a result alone is insufficient. General service concerns use the Complaints Handling Policy.
2. Stage 1 — Submit an appeal
Email WTTA within a proposed 10 working days of receiving the decision. Include your name, registered email, qualification, ATP, assessment date, the decision being challenged, your grounds, supporting evidence and the outcome requested. Explain any delay; reasonable late submissions may be considered. An ATP may assist with your consent, but you may appeal directly.
3. Initial review
Proposed targets: acknowledge within 3 working days and provide a reasoned decision within 15 working days after the necessary evidence is received. A reviewer who did not make the original decision will check records, published criteria and procedure. If re-marking is appropriate, explain the process and any possible change in outcome before it proceeds. Where delayed, provide reasons and a revised date.
4. Stage 2 — Independent review
If you believe the initial review has not addressed your grounds, request a further review within 10 working days, identifying the unresolved issue. A suitably qualified person or panel independent of the original decision and first review will consider the evidence and aim to respond within 20 working days. Conflicts of interest must be declared and managed.
5. Possible outcomes
An appeal may be upheld, partially upheld or not upheld. Outcomes may include correcting a record, re-marking, reassessment, reconsidering an access arrangement or confirming the original decision. Give written reasons, any corrective action and the implications for progression or certification. Affected results may remain provisional while the case is reviewed.
6. Fees, support and closure
No internal appeal fee is proposed. Provide accessible submission arrangements and do not penalise a learner for a good-faith appeal. Keep records secure and share information only as needed for review. The Stage 2 response concludes the internal process and should explain any applicable external review route without implying WTTA recognition by an external body.
